Though this is a modern and somewhat humorous interpretation of St. Francis' renunciation, the renunciation is a common theme in medieval art. St. Francis is often portrayed in what is considered his most glorious moment, when he gives up all wordly possessions and makes himself naked and humble before everyone, but most importantly, before God.
